If the Academy Awards have worn you out, then take a walk on the wilder side of film at the UWG Spring International Film Series beginning Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Technology-enhanced Learning Center.
The entertaining and educational series, hosted by The Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, will feature a whirlwind tour of Europe accompanied by con artists, spies and thieves. All films will be shown on Wednesday evenings at 7 p.m. in the TLC, Room 1303.
An Argentinean film titled “9 Reinas” or “Nine Queens” starts things off as a crime thriller starring two grifters, Juan and Marcos, who meet by chance and experience the con game the hard way through a set of forged rare stamps, named the Nine Queens, and a businessman on the run.
On Wednesday, March 5, the series continues with “Das Trio,” a German comedy filmed in Cologne that follows the lives a gay couple and their daughter who work as a pickpocket team and open their arms and hearts to a young, bisexual drifter.
The series finale will be “Le Professionnel” on Wednesday, April 16. With the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, the French film tells the tale of secret agent Joss Baumont who travels to Africa to assassinate the president but becomes imprisoned in his pursuit.
All of the films have won international recognition and awards but have not been shown in many American theatres. For more information, call 678-839-6515.
