The University of West Georgia and the Department of Music will present an evening concert, “American Music,” performed by the UWG Wind Symphony and the Symphonic Band on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. The event is free and the community is invited to attend.

The concert will feature popular patriotic selections from American composers.

The Wind Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Doug Overmier, associate professor of music and director of bands, will perform selections such as “American Salute” by Morton Gould, “Colours” by Roger Cichy and “Valdres” by Hanssen.

The Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Mobbs, instructor of music, will perform great selections from the traditional band repertoire such as “La Banda Nascente” by B. Sbraccia and F. Fennell, “Shenandoah” by Ticheli and “The Trombone King” by K. King.

UWG students who are music majors and students of other academic disciplines play in the symphony and the band and have toured throughout the country. The ensembles have some of the top instrumentalists in Georgia.
