The University of West Georgia will host its Second Annual UWG Water Resources Conference on Thursday, Feb. 21, and Friday, Feb. 22, at the Campus Center Ballroom.
“Strategic Water Management for the Future” is the theme for the event and will feature speakers from the UWG Department of Geosciences, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Army Corps of Engineers and many others policy makers and community leaders.
Education and awareness of water supplies and management issues in the west and northwest Georgia region, choices and ways local municipalities, business interests, non-profit organizations and educational institutions can collaboratively address water concerns are a few of the topics that will be addressed.
Southwire, the University of West Georgia and the Thomas B. Murphy Center for Public Service are sponsoring the event.
Registration is ongoing with an early registration discount of $75 for two days and $40 for one day. A dinner and a key note speaker is included in Thursday’s registration. Students will receive a free registration pass and seniors ages 60 and up are eligible for a 50 percent discount. Deadline for the discounted registration fee is February 14.
Registrations received after February 14 or at the door will cost $85 for the complete conference and $45 for a single day registration.
Registration will begin on Thursday at noon with the first session of the conference beginning at 1pm. A reception and dinner Thursday evening will begin at 5:30 p.m.
A continental breakfast will begin Friday’s event at 7:30 a.m. with the second session beginning at 8:30am. The conference will conclude at 1 p.m. on Friday.
