The University of West Georgia is pleased to mark Earth Day 2011 (Friday, April 22) with a series of events that are free and open to the public. The events are designed to get people involved in Going West and Going Green - cleaning and beautifying the land and river around UWG's scenic Carrollton campus. There are also fun things to do that capture the spirit of Earth Day.

All events free and open to the public

Monday

  • Keep Carroll Beautiful Ribbon Cutting and 6th Birthday Party, 4:30 p.m.  105 Folds Dr. Suite 3. Sponsored by Keep Carroll Beautiful.
  • Movie Night: “Wall E” at 7 p.m. Callaway Room 145. Sponsored by Love Not Litter, Keep Carroll Beautiful.

Tuesday

  • Flower Planting at John Tanner State Park, Noon  Sponsored by Love Not Litter, Keep Carroll Beautiful.

 Wednesday

  •  Fundrasier and Workshop using recycled materials to benefit SCRAP Bin in Carrollton. 11 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. in front of UCC. Sponsored by Love Not Litter, Keep Carroll Beautiful.

 Thursday

  • The Rock and Mineral Roadshow, 5:30 – 7 p.m. Lower Parking Lot at Coliseum (Callaway Building in case of rain). Sponsored by the Department of Geosciences.

 Friday: Earth Day

  • River Cleanup, 9 – noon. Starting location: Skating Rink at Temple Highway/Highway 27 North. Shuttle service from UCC at 9 a.m. Sponsored by the Department of Geosciences & Upper Tallapoosa Watershed Group.
  • Litter Lug, 9 a.m., UWG Stadium. Sponsored by Love Not Litter
  • Dayhike at Macintosh Reserve, Van leaves Campus Center at 2 p.m.  Sponsored by Campus Recreation.
  • Campus Tree Planting, 1:30 p.m. at Flag Pole (park area) on Front Campus Drive. Sponsored by “Go West and Go Green” Committee.

 Saturday

  •  Pickup with the Pack, 9 -12, Launch site at Food Lion parking lot. Shuttle service from UCC at 8:45, 9 and 10 a.m. Returns to UCC at noon. Sponsored by “Go West and Go Green” Committee.
  • Ultimate Frisbee Annual Earth Day Tournament, Time TBA. UWG Campus Sponsored by Ultimate Frisbee Club.
  • Community Foundation Park Project, Noon-2 p.m. Location TBA Sponsored by Keep Carroll Beautiful
