The University of West Georgia’s Physics Department will host an astronomy demonstration lecture on May 18. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Using advanced planetarium software, Ben de Mayo, professor emeritus of physics, will take visitors on a trip to the cosmos. The Starry Night Pro software can show the sky at given points in time and from various locations.
“We will also be demonstrating some physical aspects of astronomy, such as gravity, pressure and light,” de Mayo said.
The lecture will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Math-Physics (Crider) Lecture Hall in the Boyd Building. Boyd is on Back Campus Drive, east of and adjacent to the Ingram Library. For more information, call 678-839-4087 or 678-839-4097.
