|The University of West Georgia’s homecoming week, Oct. 1 – 6, is chock full of spirited fun for students, alumni and the entire West Georgia community as UWG prepares to take on the Valdosta State Blazers on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 2:00 p.m.|
Homecoming weekend will start off with a howl as the Wolves “Capture the Square”—UWG’s annual pep rally at Carrollton’s Adamson Square, which will start at 7:00 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5. The family-friendly, crowd-pleasing band, the Velcro Pygmies, will be the featured musical act. UWG cheerleaders and the marching band will join in the festivities as well. Students won’t want to miss the spirit contest, “Yell Like Hell.”
“Homecoming is a wonderful way for UWG friends and students—old and new—to show their school spirit,” said Frank Pritchett, director of alumni relations and annual giving.
The homecoming tradition includes the annual parade that begins at Westover Square and ends at the Greek Village.
Tailgating at University Stadium is a football fan favorite. The UWG National Alumni Association will have its red tent at the Athletics Complex and invites alumni to visit. Alumni who update their “keep in touch” form will be given a special token of appreciation at the game.
A special event this year is the Aflac NASCAR® Experience, where fans can explore its interactive truck during before the game near the Alumni tailgating area.
Local businesses continue to show their support for UWG. Several on-the-square businesses will have their windows painted by students.
“It’s terrific to see such support for the Wolves,” said Pritchett. “We’re so thankful to the community and our alumni—they help us provide UWG students with the best experiences and opportunities possible."
The UWG Athletic department has a ticket sales blitz underway, giving fans an opportunity to purchase tickets at local businesses during lunch for the homecoming game before the Oct. 6 showdown with the Valdosta State Blazers.
