UWG Student Organization Provides Etiquette Training

Monday, March 4, 2013

Student members of the UWG chapter of Enactus, a student service organization housed in the Richards College of Business, were invited to attend an etiquette dinner on Feb. 21, 2013. The students received thoroughThe attending students with Dr. Jacqueline Michael instruction on proper table etiquette and then were asked to demonstrate their skills in a formal business dinner that included local professionals.

Dr. Jacqueline Michael, former UWG director of human resources, instructed the students on proper table manners in a business setting. She covered topics such as using correct utensils, appropriate dinner conversation and attire, proper arrival time and even the matter of how to eat certain foods.

Antoinette NarCisse, a junior in business marketing and the secretary for Enactus, coordinated the event. According to NarCisse, the idea originated from a lecture given by Dr. Kimberly Green, assistant professor of management and one of the Enactus faculty advisors.

Students and Professionals during the Dinner“We learned that many people don’t know proper table etiquette and therefore become uncomfortable at formal business dinners,” NarCisse said. “We tried to create a business atmosphere for this dinner by inviting all of our Enactus advisory board members as well as community business owners.” The full list of professionals in attendance is included at the bottom of the release.

Enactus, formerly called SIFE, is an international non-profit student organization that encourages and mobilizes university students to positively impact communities while becoming socially responsible leaders. In addition to contributing thousands of community service hours over the years, the UWG Enactus team has also received several awards including regional wins and invitations to compete nationally in 2009 and 2011. The team has competed in the regional competition every year since its inception in 2007 when the team was named “Rookie of the Year.”
