UWG Hosts 300 Students for 42nd Annual Math Day

Wednesday, March 6, 2013

The University of West Georgia Department of Mathematics hosted the 42nd Annual Math Day on Friday, March 1, 2013. Over 300 students representing 24 area high schools took part in the mathematics competition. This year’s Math Day featured nearly twice the number of competitors and schools as last year. Carrollton High School had the highest overall score in the team competition taking first place for 10th and 11th grade categories.

After welcoming comments by Dr. Farooq Khan, dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, and Dr. Scott Gordon, representing the UWG Mathematics Department, the students were asked to take an individual test. The schools then competed against each other in a team problem-solving exam. After a short lunch break, the students who scored highest on the morning tests were called to the front of the auditorium to compete individually for the final awards in a ciphering competition. A full list of the Math Day winners is located at the bottom of the release.
