A mainstay for the UWG Wolves basketball team for the past four seasons has been honored for his work on the court and in the classroom. Brett Seljak was named Thursday a member of the Gulf South Conference 2012-13 Winter All-Academic Team.
A senior from Geelong, Australia, Seljak was selected for the squad in vote of the conference Sports Information Directors and Faculty Athletic Representatives. Eligibility for the team is based on a student-athlete’s contribution on the court, community service, and the candidate must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2, or above.
Though he missed three games with injury, Seljak started 22 games for UWG during the 2012-13 season. He averaged 4.5 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, including a season high 17 points in a win over Morehouse.
Seljak’s classroom record is even more impressive. He carries a 3.88 GPA, and will graduate from UWG next month with a degree in Sport Management.
With Thursday’s announcement, Seljak becomes UWG’s 11th GSC All-Academic honoree of the current school year. The others were selected from the Wolves’ five fall sports teams.
Beyond his all-academic honors, Seljak heads a list of 12 UWG men’s and women’s basketball players to earn spots on the GSC Winter Academic Honor Roll. Men’s honorees include Seljak, Ryan Godfrey, Scott Oudendyk, and Malick Kone. Also, Angela Davis, Jerlisa Taylor, JaDechia Hill, Nicole Fasick, Taylor Turgeon, Shakiyla McLin, Tanisha Jackson and Breonna Mosley represent UWG’s women’s program.
