The Spring 2013 edition of Eclectic, the University of West Georgia’s award-winning art and literary magazine, will be celebrated with a release party on Wednesday, April 3. All students, faculty and staff are invited to the event, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. in Kathy Cashen Recital Hall in the Humanities building. Food and refreshments will be offered in the lobby before the event.
Guests will enjoy live music while browsing the student art displays. There will also be readings of poetry and prose from the magazine. The Spring 2013 release party will also feature two guest readers, Dr. Travis Denton, Associate Director of Poetry at Georgia Tech, and Arthur Phillips, author of The Tragedy of Arthur.
Eclectic is a compilation of original writing, artwork and, more recently, music created by University of West Georgia students. This annual publication, which started over 65 years ago, awards prizes to students for submissions in poetry, fiction and art. The 2005 issue received the AWP National Award and the Southern Literary Festival Award. Eclectic also sponsors public readings during the academic year.
This year’s UWG student staff includes Mackenzie Reiger, Editor; Diamond Forde, Managing Editor; Megan Bell, Promotions Editor; Jonathan Miller, Interdepartmental Editor; Lauren Browning, Art Editor; Matthew Marshall, Music Editor; and Caitlin Smith, Web Editor. Dr. Katie Chaple, Lecturer in UWG’s English Department, serves as the faculty advisor for Eclectic.
