The University of West Georgia’s Office of Disability Services has changed its name to the Office of Accessibility Services. The name change comes in an effort to better define the services provided by the office.
The Office of Accessibility Services provides campus resources and opportunities that allow students with disabilities and equality needs to obtain an excellent educational experience at UWG. In addition to serving students with a documented disability, the Office of Accessibility Services collaborates, when appropriate, with Housing & Residence Life to provide housing accommodations.
Disability infers that there is some limitation in the student to be able to successfully participate in academic activities. This is simply not the case. Student with disabilities must meet the same entrance requirements of all other students. We hope that they new name removes the stigma for our students and allows them to actively participate in their own advocacy.
