The University of West Georgia held the Go West for A Day Bowdon Fundraiser on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at the historic home of Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Cox in Bowdon, Ga. With 55 people in attendance, the event raised $8,900 toward UWG’s Annual Fund.
The Bowdon Fundraiser, first held in 2007, is the first fundraiser for this year’s Annual Fund Campaign and was organized by the 2013 Bowdon fundraising committee members: Johnnie and Edna Huey, Wayne and Junnie Johnson, Jim and Judy Roswell, Randy and Cindy Saxon, Tom and Patsy Upchurch and Mignon Wessinger.
The UWG Annual Fund allows donors to give to the university’s greatest areas of need, which often means providing scholarships for students who might otherwise be unable to attend. It also maximizes the effectiveness of donations by consolidating gifts of all sizes and distributing them where they will do the greatest good. Besides awarding scholarships, it funds work-study programs and supports academic programs and projects designed to ensure that UWG remains an educational leader.
This year, the UWG Annual Fund includes a total of eight events held through October. The next event is the Leadership Kickoff on Thursday, Aug. 15 at the home of Drs. Kyle and Jane Marrero. This event is invite only.
