University of West Georgia alumni will join Dr. Kyle Marrero, president of UWG, and Wolfie, the UWG mascot, in welcoming incoming freshmen from Coweta county to the UWG family. A “Send-Off” event is scheduled for Thursday, August 22, at the Newnan Centre on Fayetteville Road. This free event will begin at 6:30 p.m. All Coweta county alumni are encouraged to attend and celebrate students who have decided to “Go West.”
Those in attendance will have an opportunity to meet Marrero, as he will be introducing himself to the Coweta community and extending a personal welcome to the incoming freshmen. Wolfie will be available for photo opportunities to anyone wanting to show their “pack pride.” Food and refreshments will be provided and a three-piece band from Musicology Newnan will provide live music. Gordon county alumni hosted a similar “Send-Off” event on August 8.
“The response for these events has been great, and we will be adding more next year in locations where we have alumni networks established,” said Frank Pritchett, UWG’s director of alumni relations and annual giving. “It’s a great way for new students to be celebrated and recognized for their decision to ‘Go West’ and for our wonderful alumni to play an important role in welcoming these students to the pack. These are fun, entertaining and informative events.” Pritchett will also speak at the event on Thursday and will be available for questions.
Guests are invited to view a slideshow of new UWG facilities and renovations. Additional information regarding the progress of the UWG Newnan Center construction project will also be available. For more information and to RSVP for the event, please visit www.westga.edu/alumni/rsvp.
