Welcome Week Events Celebrate Students’ Return to Campus

Thursday, August 22, 2013

On August 26, 2013, University of West Georgia students will officially return to campus to start fall semester classes. To properly celebrate, UWG has planned an exciting schedule for Welcome Week. Events will begin on Sunday, August 25, 2013, the day before the first day of class, with Freshmen Convocation and the annual Welcome Back Blast. Events will continue throughout the week as well.

Freshmen Convocation, a ceremony that marks the beginning of every student’s journey at UWG, is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. in the UWG Coliseum. Freshmen will have the opportunity to meet with other students, learn what it takes to be successful in college and receive a 2017 academic planner. Incoming students will also participate in the ceremonial lighting of the flame, a UWG tradition. Students are encouraged to wear their Class of 2017 t-shirts. Extra t-shirts are available in the Coliseum.

Immediately following Convocation, students are invited to attend the Annual Welcome Back Blast in Love Valley. From 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the Student Activities Council will provide funnel cakes, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn and root beer floats. Games will also be provided for extra fun. Fireworks will end the evening and mark the beginning of the new semester.
