The University of West Georgia’s 2013 Economic Forecast Breakfast, presented by the Richards College of Business, Department of Economics and Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. Three economic experts will discuss the economic forecast for 2014 on local, state and national levels.
Dr. William “Joey” Smith, associate professor of economics at UWG, will present the economic forecast for the west Georgia region including Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Paulding and Polk counties. Smith serves as the director of the Center for Business and Economic Research at UWG and has been the lead researcher on a number of projects including the economic impact of the Plant Vogtle nuclear expansion.
Kenneth Heaghney, state fiscal economist for Georgia and research professor of economics, will offer insight for the 2014 economic outlook for the entire state. He has over 20 years of experience working with business leaders on a variety of economic problems and issues. Much of his recent experience has included the application of economic analysis to the development and implementation of pricing strategies. As state economist, he is responsible for developing the annual tax revenue forecast for the state’s budget and advising the Governor’s office on economic and other policy issues.
John Canally, senior vice president and economist for LPL Financial, will provide the U.S. economic and financial outlook for 2014. Canally plays an integral role in the development and articulation of LPL Financial market and investment strategies. He has been quoted in many national publications, such as USA Today, Washington Post and TIME magazine. Canally is also a guest on national business television and radio including NPR, CNBC, BloombergTV and Fox Business News. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst, a member of the CFA Society of Philadelphia and The CFA Institute. Canally graduated from Villanova University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and attended Stern Graduate School of Business at New York University.
