The Townsend Center for the Performing Arts will present Inspiration Station, a weeklong workshop of mask-making and performance techniques taught by Doug Berky on June 21-25 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Using the illusion of mime, the antics of clown, the transformation of the mask, the suspense of a good story and the excitement of improvisation, Berky will inspire laughter and reflection. He has performed and taught as an artist in residence at schools throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
The workshop will include mask design and construction, mime and movement, circus arts and story telling through mask theater.
The week ends with students performing in a Friday night show, "Gems: World's Wisdom Stories," with Berky.
The workshop is for children in third through eighth grades and teachers. The fee is $125 per child, with an early-bird discount price of $95 until June 11, and includes supplies, instruction and involvement in the Friday show. A family discount is available: $100 for second child, $85 for third child. Children should bring a sack lunch each day.
