The Evelyn Taylor Greer Memorial Scholarship, created by Dr. Pam Tucker in memory of her mother, has been established to recognize and reward outstanding UWG students in business education.
Greer had a passion for education she shared with countless others throughout her life. After obtaining an undergraduate degree in elementary education, Greer worked in Hawaii for a year teaching first through third grade. Over her lifetime, Greer worked with many children and gave them a love of reading.
Tucker remembered that when she was a child, her mother practiced words with her on a chalkboard in their family kitchen.
“Her whole life was about bettering oneself through education,” said Tucker, who is a public health doctor at the CDC. “She thought education really gave people a ‘ladder up’ in life. This scholarship is a perfect expression of who she was as a person. She would have liked this scholarship.”
The memorial scholarship will be awarded to a junior, senior or graduate student majoring in business education at UWG. The student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and preference will be given to a student demonstrating financial need.
