The UWG Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Kevin Hibbard, will present a Winter Choral Concert on Thursday, February 18, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is free and the community is invited to attend. Jan Adams will accompany the Concert Choir on the piano, and graduate student Gay Lynn Ferry will accompany the Chamber Singers.

The Concert Choir will perform contemporary pieces by Paul Fetler, Aaron McDermid, Craig Courtney and Dale Grotenhuis, as well as ethnic pieces in Yiddish and Italian, “Neujahrslied” by Franz Schubert, and two Stephen Foster songs.

“McDermid’s ‘Te lucis ante terminum’ is becoming a fast favorite of the choir,” said Hibbard. “It’s a very expressive piece with some elements of surprise.”

The Chamber Singers will perform music learned from their participation in the 2010 Georgia All-College Chorus, including pieces by Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Vaughan Williams, and contemporary composers Arvo Pärt and Eric Whitacre. “Five Hebrew Love Songs” by Eric Whitacre will feature faculty violinist Elizabeth Kramer.

Early arrival is recommended. For more information on this and other music events, call 678-839-6516 or visit www.westga.edu/music.
