Why Support UTeach
"The U.S. is failing to produce and retain sufficient numbers of qualified math and science teachers to keep America internationally competitive. It is estimated that the U.S. will need 280,000 more math and science teachers by 2015" (National Math and Science Initiative)
The need for high quality science and math teachers could not be greater! The University of West Georgia's UTeach Program produces students that will graduate with a major in a content area (Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Mathematics, or Physics) and with an education concentration that qualifies them for teacher certification according to GaPSC (Georgia Professional Standards Commission) requirements.
UTeach students enter the classroom in their first semester within the program, making it very different from traditional teacher education programs. The close and constant support by master teachers, mentor teachers, and UWG faculty provides help that no other program on campus can match.
UTeach is designed to create high quality STEM teachers who have a passion for their subject. They will then carry forward and instill that passion for STEM subjects in their students, hopefully creating a generation that is well educated in math and science.
Upon completion of the UTeach program, students will have the opportunity to also enter into the workforce in fields related to their subject area. UTeach will instill the skills necessary for the workforce into its students, to better prepare them for careers in STEM.
Even though this innovative program has successfully obtained funding from multiple grants, additional support is needed in order for UTeach West Georgia to continue to improve. Giving to UTeach is as simple as clicking the link to the side and filling out the Online Giving Form.
