Director of Research and Sponsored Operations
The University of West Georgia, an expanding doctoral institution located 45 minutes from downtown Atlanta, seeks an energetic leader with successful experience in gaining and administering grants, contracts, and other extramural funding to support research, scholarship, creative activity, and curricular ventures. Having moved into the realm of doctoral universities during the past decade, UWG is at the brink of new levels of academic achievement that need solid extramural support. We seek someone with entrepreneurial vision who thrives in environments that foster resourceful, creative approaches to organizational development.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Operations supports efforts to gain extramural provision for academic ventures. It assists members of the faculty and staff in all aspects of preparing and submitting grant proposals, provides administrative services to awarded grants and contracts, and helps with the reporting process. It monitors compliance with university, state, and federal regulations. The Director of Sponsored Operations is responsible for all aspects of grant/contract activities and reports directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in any discipline.
- An entrepreneurial spirit and strong internal motivation to make a relatively modest operation into something much more substantial.
- Success in pursuing external funding at the local, state, and federal levels, and with private foundations.
- Experience managing externally funded research projects, including their budgets.
- Ability to develop research and grant-seeking skills in others.
- Strong computer and analytical skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work with faculty across many disciplines.
- Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills.
