West Georgia Water Conference

The University of West Georgia announces the Second Annual UWG Water Resources Conference on February 21-22, 2008. The theme for this year is Strategic Water Management for the Future. The conference features speakers from the Department of Geosciences at UWG, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Army Corps of Engineers, and others.

You are invited to attend this conference to learn more about water management matters and to participate in the conference discussion. Your involvement in this event will give you the opportunity to be a partner in addressing the water concerns in the region. The conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, February 21-22, 2008, in the Campus Center at the University of West Georgia. Registration will open on Thursday at noon with the first plenary session beginning at 1pm. There will be a reception and dinner Thursday evening for those registered. Friday will open with a continental breakfast at 7:30am and the second plenary session starting at 8:30am. The conference will conclude at 1pm on Friday.

The conference reflects long standing local concerns about the political and scientific elements of water issues. It is sponsored by Southwire, in partnership with the University of West Georgia and the Thomas B. Murphy Center for Public Services. The Conference aims to raise awareness of water supply and management issues in the west/northwest Georgia region, and to stimulate discussion on ways that local municipalities, business interests, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions can collaboratively address water concerns.

The registration fee for both days of the conference is $75 if you register by Friday, February 14. Single day registrations are available for $40 per day. Students receive free registration and seniors over 60 receive half off the registration fee. For registrations received after February 14th, the registration fee will be $85 for the complete conference and $45 for single day registrations. You can register by contacting the UWG Department of Continuing Education at 678-839-6611.
