Women's Studies

What is Women's Studies?

Developed as a result of the reemergence of the women's movement in the 1960's, women's studies is a field devoted to the research and understanding of women, their roles, and the stereotypes surrounding such roles in our society. In conjunction with this, women's contributions and achievements are also addressed from an interdisciplinary standpoint. Because much of the information taught in traditional college level courses is about and from the viewpoint of men, the focus of women's studies is to attempt to create a balance of knowledge equal between genders.  For further information, please contact Dr. Carolyn Sloane Sawtell, Department of Sociology, csawtell@westga.edy
