Young Scholars Institute 2009

Who: Academically gifted and curious rising eighth and ninth
graders. Space is limited to 24 participants in each session.

What: The Young Scholars Institute (YSI) provides highly able
students with a unique opportunity to learn in a challenging and
fun-filled program designed to provide intellectual development
and stimulation in a university environment.

YSI participants reside with professional, highly-trained staff in
a secure, air-conditioned university residence hall. University
professors teach daytime classes in which students explore different
disciplines in depth; evenings are filled with social and recreational
activities that promote interaction and friendships. Former YSI
campers report that they have maintained contact with their new
friends and their professors years after their summer experience at
West Georgia.

June 14 - June 20 · Math & Science
Students will investigate Chemistry, Geology, Physics/Astronomy
and Mathematics. The week will conclude with a closing ceremony
in which students will highlight their discoveries from the week.
June 21 - June 27 · Arts & Humanities
Classes include Computer Animation, Debate, Creative Writing,
and Art. Students will demonstrate what they have learned during
an end of week closing ceremony.

Where: On the campus of the University of West Georgia,
Carrollton, GA.

Cost: $500 for one week or $900 for both sessions, which
includes housing, food, instruction, and supplies. A limited number
of scholarships are available.
