Awards
Alumni
awards are presented annually during Homecoming festivities (October).
Awards given include the following: Distinguished Service, Achievement,
Honorary Alumnus, Outstanding Retired Faculty, Outstanding Young Alumnus,
Thelma Harman Turner Alumni Loyalty, Spotlight Award, President's Award. To nominate someone, submit names
for appropriate awards to alumni@westga.edu.
Also, please indicate sufficient reason for the award so the awards committee
can effectively name recipients.
2007 Award Winners
Distinguished Service: Drs. Anne and Fred Richards
Presented annually to a graduate who has devoted long-term service to the association and to UWG.
Achievement: Rocky Lipham; Mary Covington
Presented annually to a graduate who has brought credit to the university and the association through career achievement.
President's Award: Donnie Newsom
Presented annually to the outgoing president of the Alumni Association.
Outstanding Retired Faculty: Dr. John Ferling
Recognizes one of UWG’s faculty members. It is intended to recognize service to the university, students and the community.
Honorary Alumnus: Ray Fulford
Presented annually to a person who has demonstrated outstanding service to UWG.
Outstanding Young Alumnus: Roger Huffstetler
Presented to a graduate of the past 15 years who has made significant strides in career achievement.
Thelma Harman Turner Alumni Loyalty: Judy Copeland Rowell
Periodically presented to an alumnus in recognition of enduring service to the Alumni Association and to UWG. Recipients become lifetime members of the Alumni Board.
Spotlight Award: Dr. Tim Hynes
Added in 1997 as a way to bring attention to the efforts of alumni who make significant contributions to the association and to UWG.
