Mary M. Covington
Achievement Award
Mary Covington, executive vice president of First National Bank of Georgia, understands what it takes to achieve in the world of business. A graduate of Brenau College, Florida State University, LSU’s Graduate School of Banking and the University of West Georgia, she realizes what an important role education plays in life. That is one of the reasons why she began her career as a high school English and speech teacher.
Covington also understands the importance of community. She serves on the board of several organizations in the West Georgia area, including Tanner Medical Center, Carroll Tomorrow Economic Foundation and Community Foundation of West Georgia.
She has also served on several UWG committees, including the Alumni Council, the Annual Fund Task Force, the Board of Trustees and the Richards College of Business Board of Visitors. In addition, she has worked for several years as a volunteer during A DAY for West Georgia.
She is married to Jerry Wood and her hobbies include walking, reading, golf and travel. She also adores spending time with her granddaughters Eliza and Edye.
