Evaluation/Assessment: The students will receive a grade based on their participation in the experiments, the completion of the Record Sheet, and their diagram of the digestive system.
Extension: The students will create their own diagram of the digestive system. They should label each part and give a short description of what it does. They may choose how they will create their diagram. A doctor or nurse could be invited to come and speak with the class.
Closure: The class will discuss how their predictions varied from the results.
Adaptations to Lesson: Students could be placed into groups for all of the experiments so they would be more able to help one another with predicting and concluding. The extension activity of the diagram can be simplified by giving them a sheet to label or the teacher could extend the activity for some by having them create a chart or poster to place in the hallway.
