Welcome to our New Retirees!
Congratulations to our new crop of UWG faculty and staff retirees who represent the retiring class of 2006-2007. I know you are feeling a collective sigh of relief and looking forward to a new chapter in your lives. This year our distinguished group represents a combined total of over 240 years of service to the University of West Georgia, or West Georgia College as most of you remember it from that first year of service so long ago. It goes without saying that such a total means that you truly found a home here and that your experiences, with all the ups and downs, proved to be satisfying and mutually beneficial. The institution owes you all a very big debt of gratitude. |
Retiring Class

The Association of Retired Faculty and Staff (ARFS) has only been around for a couple of years, and this July 2007 reunion is only our third. It is held to honor this year’s group of retirees and to provide an opportunity to get together and visit and talk about the good old days with former colleagues. Our reunion this year, as you can see from the invitation, is on Saturday evening, July 14, 2007, in the Martha Munro building on campus, starting at 7:00 pm. We hope that you all can join us, and bring your families. At this point we have no dues or constitution and hope to keep our organization as informal and friendly as possible. As I have said before, if we still wanted a multitude of responsibilities, we would not have retired in the first place! We basically meet several times a year to discuss ways of keeping retirees connected to the university and to provide opportunities for them to come together in both social and service ways. We do not think that retirees should simply fade out of sight and disappear from view. After all, we have given the best years of our lives to this place. Let’s at least keep in touch! ARFS has this nice website going now and from time to time we will keep updating it, so let’s use it together as an efficient means of communication. We try to post information about up-coming events on campus and to keep you informed about benefits associated with being retired from UWG. We put out a quarterly newsletter called The Rejuvenator and mail it to all retirees. After all, not everybody is quite ready for the Internet! So once again, welcome to ARFS and we former retirees look forward very much to seeing you at some of our activities in the future. I wish all of you happiness, prosperity and good health during the long retirement you have earned. Have fun! Glenn Novak, Class of 2003 |
