Summer Study Abroad

For the past 11 years the Department of Art has organized summer study abroad in France. In 1997 the city of Bayeux, France gave the Department of Art a full-size replica of the famous Bayeux Tapestry. Because of this special relationship, trips often center around a stay in the city of Bayeux, located in the Normandy region, and just 8 miles from the English Channel. It is an area rich in history, the medieval capital of France, and more recently the heart of the D-Day invasion during World War II. Students can take art history and studio art courses, as well as a variety of courses outside of the Department of Art. Funding for these trips is available through scholarships and HOPE pays tuition costs. Travel abroad is an experience that will change your life and your world view forever.

The galleries serve to engage and challenge audiences by presenting stimulating exhibitions of exceptional high quality.

The Main Gallery at UWG features an active exhibition schedule of contemporary art featuring established and emerging regional,  national, and international artists who produce exciting and innovative work. Visiting artists interact with students on campus through artist talks, guest critiques, and demonstrations.

Location & Hours:
Humanities Building, first floor

Closed weekends and University observed breaks

Gallery 2
Gallery 2 showcases the work of Graduating Seniors who exhibit work in solo exhibitions. Students are also encouraged and supported in seeking professional exhibition opportunities and connections beyond campus- frequently exhibiting their work in local gallery venues.

Atrium Gallery
This third floor open gallery space features a painted replica of the famous Bayeux Tapestry on permanent display.

ATLANTA GALLERY PROJECT

The mission of the Atlanta Gallery Project (AGP) is to provide an Atlanta showcase for The University of West Georgia’s student and faculty visual research and to generate ideas for a more long term venture which would include curatorial and visiting artist opportunities, arts administration and gallery internship experience for our students, as well as an outreach platform with possible combined activities with other Art Departments within and outside the perimeter of the Atlanta metropolitan area.
