Why the UWG Department of Art?
The Department of Art at University of West Georgia provides an education in visual art that embraces traditional and contemporary art making and its appreciation. The department currently has approximately 275 art majors from the West Georgia region, the metropolitan Atlanta area, and the broader state of Georgia. These students come here for the environment of personal care and attention to their intellectual, visual, social and career educational needs that our dedicated faculty provides. Eleven full-time and five part-time professors of national and international origin - including the US, Canada, Great Britain, and Ireland- bring the expertise of their individual research and creative production to the degree programs offered. The culture of learning and visual expression provided by the faculty foster excellence of concept, expression, and craft in their respective areas while promoting cross-disciplinary contexts for the expansion of visual meaning and literacy.
