Assignment: Identification of Major Themes in
The Great GatsbyDirections: For the next class period, review the list of the major themes in the novel and locate at least three salient passages that clearly articulate, discuss, define, and illustrate these themes. You must use specific textual examples and then discuss in detail how these examples demonstrate the themes found in the novel. We will discuss these responses in class.

Fantasy vs. Reality
**Note: Along with the primary text, also carefully review again the novel’s preface (linked to your syllabus) as it discusses each of these themes. This may help you as you begin to consider how Fitzgerald includes these themes in his text. Also, use your answer from question 6 (from class discussion) from the previous assignment to help in furthering your responses.
