Revision Portfolios

Definition:  Revision is defined as altering or “revising” and involves both reconsideration and modification.

For this revision process, students will be asked to include the following:

• revise a draft of a piece of their writing, guided by teacher comments and notations and include BOTH the original graded draft (s) and the revised version of that draft (s) in the portfolio.
• use a highlighter to mark the sections of the new draft(s) that have been revised from the previous draft. (you may also use the highlighting function of Microsoft Word)
• use sticky notes or marginal annotations to explain what changes have been made, why they were made, and the effects of those changes. (you may also use the track changes function of Microsoft Word)
• write a self-assessment that explains the changes that have been made and the growth that these changes promote in that student as a writer.

Students may revise any/all of the three out-of-class essays but MUST include the above information for EACH essay revision submitted.  If the student chooses to revise more than one essay, he/she must place dividers between each section.

Modifications of original essay grades will ONLY be considered if the student has made significant reconsideration and modification to the original draft that would demonstrate an increased competency when compared to the programmatic grading rubric.  Essay revisions that do not demonstrate this change will not receive a grade change.

The portfolios are due in my office no later than 5 pm on July 30th (date of the final exam).  Portfolios received after that time will NOT be considered.
