Greetings!

This is my third and last year as the chair of the School Climate SIG. A new chair will be nominated and appointed at the business meeting in Seattle this coming year. The natural progression would be to have Catherine Glascock nominated and appointed since she has served as the program chair for this past two years. We desperately need an active VP for membership this year.  Our membership at the current time has dwindled to the point that we are going to have to scramble for enough to maintain our SIG. The new procedure for SIG membership is now controlled by AERA. You can only become a member of this SIG by joining AERA and then indicating which SIG's you wish to be a member of.  Our SIG number is #104.

The membership application is on page 36 of the November issue of the Educational Researcher. When you send in your AERA application make sure that you put our membership number on the bottom of the page.  Our dues are $10.00/year and you can pay for two years if you wish.

The purpose of School Climate SIG is to link researchers from all over the world who are interested in school climate and school climate related research. For example, in addition to school climate, I am interested in "caring learning communities," "levels of openness and trust in groups and organizations," and " student behaviors that are representative of certain character values." Some of my research can be found on this website. Other research can be found on the ERIC database if you do an author search and type in my last name "Bulach."

If you have articles, research, or instruments you wish to add to the website, send it to me on a disk saved as an MS Word document.

We are planning for a get together at the AERA conference in Seattle. It looks like we will have two sessions. Anyway, it is a pleasure to communicate with you this way and welcome you to our site. Remember that it is also your site. We are here to serve our membership anyway we can.

A little bit about myself. I am a retired school superintendent from Ohio. I have been in the professoriate for 10 years. Currently, I am in the Department of Educational Leadership and Foundations at the State University of West Georgia.
