Materials

 

1.      Textbook:  “Chemistry:  The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change” by Silberberg, Fourth Edition.

2.      Workshop Manual

3.      Scientific Calculator  ( Recommend TI-83 Plus or TI-84)

 

Course Outline:  This course introduces fundamental principles and applications of chemistry for science majors.  The first eleven chapters of the textbook will be covered during the semester and include topics in composition of matter, stoichiometry, periodic relations and nomenclature. 

 

 

Evaluation: 

 

Workshop                                                                                           15 % Final Grade

 

 The workshop is mandatory.  Workshop leaders will assign grades based on participation and

 attendance. 

 

Activities (On-Line Assignments, Labs, Quizzes)                            25% final grade

 

All on-line activities must be completed by the scheduled due date.  No time extensions will be given for missed assignments.

1.      Test # 1  Chapters 1 –  3.                                                   Wednesday September 13, 2006

2.      Test # 2 Chapters 4 & 5.                                                    Wednesday October 4, 2006

3.      Test # 3 Chapters 6 – 8.                                                     Wednesday November 8, 2006

4.      Test # 4 Chapters 9 – 11.                                                   Wednesday November 29, 2006

 

 

No make up tests will be scheduled. 

 

Final Exam ACS                                                                                 20 % final grade

 

The final exam will be given on Monday December 4, 2006 from 5:30 until 7:30.  This exam is comprehensive for the entire semester.
