International Night

International Night is Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. in Z-6.Everyone is invited to the annual International Night on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. in the Food Services Building (Z-6). Admission is $5 for UWG students, $7 for children under 12 and $8 for the community, including faculty and staff.

Hosted by the International Student Club, the event will feature more than 40 countries. The evening begins with samplings of international cuisine, followed by exciting exhibits, dancing, singing and a fashion show that will display clothing from around the world.

There are approximately 140 international students enrolled at UWG from many diverse countries including Antigua, Brazil, Ecuador, Germany and Romania. Come dance the bachata, salsa and paranda with these students and the campus community.

Sylvia Shortt, assistant director of International Services and Programs, said the evening will be an experience that you will never forget.

“Come experience a trip around the world,” said Shortt. “Expand your cultural knowledge of other countries by coming to eat exotic foods and watch dancing and singing.”

Mardi Gras of Majors

The EXCEL Center for Academic Excellence will hold its ninth annual Mardi Gras for Majors on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. in the TLC Atrium.

With more than 1,000 students without a declared major and an untold number of others who are still insecure about their decision, this event will offer an opportunity for students to explore their options by talking to each academic department at UWG.

In addition to academic departments, a number of other student services departments will be at the event, including International Programs and Career Services. Refreshments and a raffle for door prizes will be made available to all attendees.

“This is going to be a one-stop shop,” said David Sluder, EXCEL Center advisor and coordinator for the event. “It will put everything UWG has to offer at students’ fingertips.”
