Construction Update on Campus Shows Everyone is on ScheduleSpring is in the air but more importantly on the UWG campus, the sound of construction is in the air! The Health and Wellness Center is taking shape as the trusses for the arena went in last week. According to Elsa Pena, campus architect, the building has been put on a fast track in order for occupancy to begin in January 2009. ![]() The Callaway Building addition is 30 percent complete, according to Lynn Agan, director of campus planning and development, and he expects the builder to meet the July material completion date. To continue to improve the campus culture for students, two important projects are in the planning stages. The design for the Athletic Complex, which will include a football stadium, is in progress with an anticipated date of playing football on the UWG campus in the Fall of 2010. A Greek Village is under consideration, according to Dr. Melanie McClellan, vice president of student services. The plan is for the university to own and lease buildings to the Greek organizations based on a plan at other mid-sized institutions, which has been successful. The hope is that the Greek Village, to be located on the property north of campus that is currently occupied by Evergreen Apartments, will promote a positive image for these organizations by focusing on their community involvement. If plans continue as intended, construction on the buildings should begin in August of 2008 and be completed by fall of 2009.
