Brass Fest Lets Students Toot Own Horns
Musical high school students are invited to show off their talents at the first annual Brass Fest on Friday, March 28, and Saturday, March 29, on the campus of the University of West Georgia. The community is invited to attend the musician’s final Brass Quintet performance at the Townsend Center at 5 p.m.
The Department of Music will host the event and offer guest musicians an opportunity to perform with professional musicians in a brass ensemble, participate in a master class and play in groups that include horn, trumpet, tuba/euphonium and trombone choirs. No audition is required to participate in the event and all high school brass musicians are welcome.
Cost for high school students is $20 before March 21 and $30 after that date.
Top students will be selected to perform in a brass quintet for a final concert at the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday at 5 p.m. The concert is free and the community is invited to attend.
UWG faculty coordinating and playing at the event include Mike Lanier on trumpet, Dr. Ellie Jenkins on horn and Dr. Kevin Mobbs playing low brass.
Students interested in attending the event should contact the Department of Music at 678-839-6516.
