April is blossoming and so are the cultural arts at UWG. In this Entertainment Issue, the Campus Chronicle highlights a few of the opportunities offered in drama, music, international intrigue and art.

Symposium Features Saxophone, Percussion Talent

West Georgia is saxing it up with four concerts beginning with a saxophone and percussion symposium and ending with a Globe Saxophone Quartet performance. Faculty, staff and students have been spotted all over campus dressed in black and carrying large golden saxophones. Check out one of their entertaining performances. 

A Saxophone and Percussion Symposium will bring sweet melodic rhythm to campus on Friday, April 4, and Saturday, April 5, with two free concerts open to the community.

Local high school ensembles, UWG music groups and UWG faculty and students will perform together on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Kathy Cashen Recital Hall and present a closing concert on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Ballroom. MORE

Townsend Center to End Season on High Note

Townsend Center to End Season on High NoteAfter an exciting sellout season, fiddle and mandolin melodies will fill the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts for its last show of the academic year on Friday, April 11, and Saturday, April 12.  Internationally acclaimed music duo Jay Ungar and Molly Mason will delight audiences with their songs and legends on stage and at a free workshop for fans of the fiddle.

Get Lost

The International Student Club is sponsoring a guest of note on Tuesday, April 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Center. National Geographic and NPR journalist and author Doug Lansky is coming to Carrollton to share his stories of adventure and world travel. The event is free and the community is invited to attend.

Lansky, who is known for his humorous story telling, has traveled the world and will share his experiences in a presentation he calls "Get Lost, World Travel Guide." The University of West Georgia and the Department of Art will host their Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition from April 7 – 24 in the Main Gallery of the Humanities Building. MORE
