Events of Note
Spring Commencement to feature alumni
The UWG commencement will be held in the Campus Center Gymnasium
at 9 a.m., noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Undergraduates from the College
of Education will be awarded degrees at the 9 a.m. ceremony. The
noon and 3 p.m. ceremonies will feature undergraduates receiving
their degrees from the College of Arts and Sciences. At noon, students
earning Bachelor of Science, a BS in Chemistry and a BS in Nursing
degrees will receive their diploma. Below is a brief summary of
the speakers.
9 a.m.
Trent North has served as principal of Carrollton Middle School
in Carrollton, since 2005. Before joining Carrollton Middle
School, he was principal of New Horizons alternative school for
three years and assistant principal of Carrollton Elementary School
for five years. Prior to becoming a principal, he taught seventh
grade history at Carrollton Junior High School. North holds a Specialist
in Education degree in educational leadership from Lincoln Memorial
University. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science
and master’s degree in educational
leadership from the University of West Georgia. He serves on the
University of West Georgia Foundation Board of Trustees, the UWG
Real Estate Foundation Board and the UWG Black Men with Initiative
Board.
Noon
Attorney J. Randolph “Randy” Evans has been listed
since 2002 in Best Lawyers in America, and Atlanta Magazine recognized
him as a Georgia Super Lawyer from 2004 to 2007. JAMES Magazine
named him one of Georgia’s Most
Influential People in 2005 and 2006. A frequent lecturer and national
speaker, Evans is the author of two books, The Practical Guide
to Legal Malpractice Prevention and Guidelines for Purchasing Legal
Malpractice Insurance. In addition to numerous articles and publications,
he writes a weekly newspaper column that appears in newspapers
around Georgia. Evans earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, summa
cum laude, at West Georgia in 1980. He received his Juris Doctor
degree, magna cum laude, at the University of Georgia in 1983.
He is a recipient of the UWG Lifetime Achievement Award.
3 p.m.
Attorney Cary Ichter is a partner in the Adorno & Yoss Commercial
Litigation practice group. A trial lawyer who primarily handles
commercial disputes, Ichter represents a range of clients including national
franchise companies, which he represents both regionally and nationally,
and several international franchise brands, which he represents on
a national basis. Ichter earned his Bachelor of Science degree
at West Georgia in 1981, and he received his Juris Doctor degree,
magna cum laude, from the University of Georgia in 1984. He is
a member of the University of West Georgia Foundation Board of
Trustees, and he is also involved in Organization CARE.
6 p.m.
The vice president for research and planning for Carroll Tomorrow/Carroll
County Chamber in Carrollton since 2001, Carlianne Patrick Crotty
has been recognized in Georgia Trend’s “40 Under 40” list
of the state’s
emerging leaders in business, culture, government and academics.
She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in international economic
affairs and psychology, magna cum laude, from UWG in 2000, and
her Master of Science degree in development studies from the London
School of Economics and Political Science in 2001. She was named
a UWG Outstanding Young Alumna in 2005 and serves on the Advanced
Academy of Georgia Board of Trustees.
