Alum Receives Woodruff Fellowship
University of West Georgia alumna Vicki White, who graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing in 2000 and a Master of Science degree in nursing in 2005, received a Woodruff Leadership Academy Fellowship from Emory University.
Established in 2003, the Woodruff Leadership Academy (WLA) combines a program of classroom sessions, off-site team projects, and weekend retreats to motivate professionals and managers within the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center.
Each year's class of fellows is an extraordinary group of researchers, physicians, educators and administrators. White is department director of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, the Transitional Care Unit and Endoscopy Services at Emory University Hospital.
White said she is looking forward to the experience.
“This fellowship will impact my career by further developing and strengthening the leadership skills that I learned in the Master’s of Nursing program at the UWG,” said White. “The program assists in the development of managerial and technical expertise, as well as interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills necessary to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing healthcare environment.”
Before accepting her present position at Emory, White worked as a chief nursing officer at North Georgia Medical Center and held several management and nursing positions at the Hamilton Medical Center.
The Department of Nursing at UWG offers a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in nursing with classes available at the Newnan campus as well as the Carrollton campus.
The undergraduate nursing program at West Georgia offers students a choice of two tracks to study. The first track for generic students prepares graduates who are eligible to apply to take the national licensing examination (NCLEX-RN) to become a registered nurse. The second track, the RN completion track, is for individuals who are licensed RNs.
The MSN degree has options for students in either education or health systems leadership and a post-masters certificate.
The academy at Emory University is designed to maximize opportunities for fellows to discover new approaches and capabilities necessary to thrive in an academic health center. The Woodruff Leadership is made possible by support from the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center Fund.
