Economic Forecast Breakfast Comes to UWG

The economy is in turmoil, which makes the timing for the 12th annual Economic Forecast Breakfast on October 28 pretty good. Dr. William “Joey” Smith is one of the guest speakers for the event. UWG Hosts New Series

As the budget news for the State looks bleak, the team at the University of West Georgia is focused on being part of the solution. UWG faculty members are presenting a two-part series for the campus and Carroll County community dealing with different aspects of the economic situation on Tuesdays, Oct. 21 and 28, at 7 p.m. in the Bonner Lecture Hall. Waring Lab Director Thrives on Public Outreach

When Henrietta Waring gave $1 million to the University of West Georgia in 1995 in memory of her late husband, Antonio J. Waring, Jr., the gift funded the Antonio J. Waring, Jr. Anthropology Endowment and distinguished the University of West Georgia as one of the very few universities in the country that can claim an endowed undergraduate anthropology program. • Art Incend Week is Oct. 24 - 30! Faculty and staff are invited to join Art Incend, a weeklong event hosted by Sculpture and Ceramics Student Organization or SACSO, Carve on the Quad and Safe Treat. All events will be held on the Quad and in the Art Annex and tee shirts are available at the UWG Bookstore and in Humanities. On Oct. 30, carved pumpkins will be lit throughout the Quad in time for the Residence Life program, Safe Treats.

Friday, Oct. 24
- 5 p.m. Iron Pour: A production pour for Sculpture and 3D Composition student projects. If outside participants are interested in making or bringing molds, contact Kevin Rutherford or Casey Westbrook by Oct. 17.
- Evening: Lighting of the wood kiln for Ceramics and 3D composition student projects. This firing will run continually through Oct. 27-28.
- Oct. 24 - 28 Firing of the Wood Kiln. Shifts will be rotating continually. Contact Dave Collins.

Wednesday, Oct. 29
- 11 a.m. Graduate Student Panel Discussion: "Telling It Like It Is" Room 203, Humanities. This discussion is paralleled with the "New Directions" exhibit.

Thursday, Oct. 30
- “Carve on the Quad" will be held in conjunction with "Safe Treat" which is sponsored by Residence Life.
- 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Carve on the Quad – All day pumpkin carving
- 6 p.m. Barbecue sponsored by SACSO.
- Lighting and judging of the pumpkins, awards given.
- Exhibition of works produced during Art Incend week.
- "Trick My Treats", cast chocolate candy body parts for sale. Costume Contest: Juried by art faculty, awards given.
