UWG is Kawai EPIC Partner

The University of West Georgia received a prestigious honor of being recognized as a Kawai EPIC Partner at a reception on campus. (L-R) Dr. Kevin Hibbard, professor of music and chair of the Department of Music, accepted a $30,000 check from Corry Callies, director of Institutional Relations for Kawai America Corporation, as Dr. Thomas Hynes, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, looks on holding a plaque honoring the occasion. UWG is only the sixth North American school to achieve the distinction of as a Kawai EPIC Partner. The department recently acquired 30 new Kawai pianos with five of those being the exclusive, hand-built Shigeru Kawai models.

Brent HeidornkudosThe Carrollton League of Women Voters hosted a presentation on the necessity of physical education in the elementary school by Assistant Professor of Physical Education Brent Heidorn. Heidorn talked about “What Students Need are Reading, Writing and Physical Education” to promote quality physical education in schools and took a look at a survey of the state public schools and the recommended number of minutes for physical education.

kudosDr. David Bush, professor of geosciences, recently received a grant for $35,000 to create a storm surge database. Still in its beginning stages, the site is at least a two-year project.

kudosThe collaboration between the faculty, staff and students for a week of art projects with Incend Week, pumpkins with ?Carve on the Quad, and Residence Life's Safe Treat  was a huge success as a community service and campus event.
