Event of NoteThe Georgia Communication Association will host its 78th annual conference on the campus of the University of West Georgia on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 20-21. The workshop sessions are free and the university and local communities are invited to attend. Keynote speaker Dr. Kory Floyd, professor of health and family communication, is director of the Communication Sciences Laboratory at Arizona State University. He will be welcomed by UWG President Beheruz N. Sethna at noon on Friday in the Campus Center and introduced by GCA President Pamela Hayward. Faculty, staff and students from a dozen universities and colleges will be presenters of a variety of panel discussions and workshops. Sessions include “Student Text Messaging During Class Time: Exploring Communication Issues of Attitudes, Etiquette, Experience and Policy,” “Leadership Traits Unique to Entrepreneurs,” and a “Media Diversity Panel Presentation: A Dollar and a Dream, Diversity in Broadcast Commercial Advertising.” UWG Mass Communications Lecturer Gail Reid will present “Communication Throught the Lens of History: A Fulbright Journey” with a multi media presentation taken from her travels through the Czech Republic and Hungary. She will talk about the communication strategies and coping mechanisms used by both Czechs and Hungarians. Georgia Perimeter College’s Paul Gustaud, will moderate the Student Film Festival and Contest. That event will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the Martha Monro Building. The association has a diverse membership in all communication disciplines, including speech communication, mass communication, organizational communication, public relations and theatre.
