Faculty and staff were awarded for their years of service at the final Faculty Senate Meeting of the year. Awarded for 30 years of service were (l-r) Charlotte Kraft, Annelle Colevins, Marion Odom and Patricia Pollard.

Awarded for 25 years of service were Danny Johnson, Dean Wilburn, James Spake, Vedat Gunay and Mitchell Clifton.
Awarded for 20 years of service were Dr. Lynne Gaskin, Denise Robinson, Martha Bonner, Laura Bennett, Henry Garrison, Dr. Kevin Hibbard, Doyle Folds, Frank Pritchett, Dr. Larry Frazier, Dr. Salil Talpade and Dr. David Boldt.
Awarded for 15 years of service were Dr. Spencer Slattery, Gloria Smith, Renet Jones, Sally Roberts, Denise Parham, Barbara Kendrix, Todd Slate, John Vines, Oliver Sears, Christopher Huff, Dr. David Newton, Dr. Andrew Leavitt, Robert Jones, Van Edwards, Edward Croy and Dr. Gregory Payne.
Awarded for their decade of service were Lori Hobbs, Dr. Daniel Helminiak, Shane Gibbs, Dr. Jill Drake, Sean Conners, Dr. Muriel Cormican, Jo Burson, Alice Wesley, Sherri Shelnutt, Tara Pearson, Chad Miller, Peggy Houston and Suzanne Horton.
 A retirement tea and reception honored Dr. Lynne Gaskin, associate dean of the College of Education and professor of physical education and sport studies, and Mitchell Clifton, assistant professor of computer science for their years of service and retirement.
UWG was recognized with the “Above and Beyond” award for the outstanding support of UWG employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve awarded UWG at the awards banquet on St. Simons Island. Jeff Rooks, senior lecturer from the Department of Management, represented the university at the event. UWG’s award was presented by Major General William Nesbitt, adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard.
Two Advanced Academy students, Jacob Hewell and Amanda Brock, presented "Eratosthenes and the Circumference of the Earth" at the annual meeting of the Georgia Academy of Science at Spelman College. Co-authored by Robert Moore, Jr., physics lab coordinator and assistant director of the West Georgia Observatory, and Dr. Bob Powell, chair of the Department of Physics and director of the observatory, the award received Best of Show in the Philosophy and History of Science section.
