Crafton Heads to Clayton State

Dr. Micheal Crafton, professor of English at the University of West Georgia, has accepted the position of interim provost and vice president for Academic Affairs at Clayton State University.

Crafton Heads to Clayton StateHe will be joining UWG’s Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Thomas J. Hynes, who is serving as interim president at Clayton State. The interim positions are expected to end in one year.

Crafton began teaching English courses at West Georgia in 1982 as an instructor and is considered to be an expert on medieval literature, Chaucer and the Bayeux Tapestry.

He previously served as associate vice president for Academic Affairs from 1997 to 2000 and again in 2007 through the 2008 academic year. Crafton also served as advisor to the Vice President for Student Services for Enrollment Management from 2001 to 2004.

As a writer, Crafton has published dozens of works including the 2007 Mellon Press book, “Fabrications of Power: Artistic Multiplicity, Imperial Ideology, and the Bayeux Tapestry.”

Crafton also founded AISA, the Association for the Interdisciplinary Study of the Arts and the journal of the association, JAISA.
