November Month of Music

The University of West Georgia and the Department of Music will present a November Month of Music beginning with jazz and ending with the big sound of brass. All of the events are free and the community is invited to attend.

The UWG Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, under Choir Director Kevin Hibbard, will present a Fall Choral Concert on Tuesday, November 17, at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center for the Performing Arts. Jan Adams will accompany on the piano and Music Education major Sarah Nystrom, a graduate of Carrollton High School, will perform on horn.

The Chamber Singers’ lively repertoire will include an Italian madrigal by Arcadelt and music by international and American composers. A featured piece on the program is the stunning “You Are the Music” by composer Dan Forrest.

“It’s the choir’s favorite piece, and the horn adds a wonderful bit of color to the resonance,” said Hibbard.

The following evening on Wednesday, November 18, a very lively performance by the Concert Percussion Ensemble and the renowned Jazz Percussion Group entertain at 8:15 p.m. in the Townsend Center. The popular concert will feature new repertoire, new members and new tunes and give the audience a foot stomping experience.

On Monday, November 23, the UWG Brass Ensemble will entertain with its fall concert in the Richard Dangle Theatre in the Townsend Center. The ensemble has 18 musicians playing trumpets, horns, trombones, euphoniums and tubas. The pieces span hundreds of years of history and encompass every stylistic period from the antiphonal Renaissance music of Gabrieli to Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust.”
