Web WatchThe Beloit College Mindset List provides a look at the cultural touchstones that shape the lives of students entering college each fall. Created in 1998 by Beloit’s Keefer Professor of the Humanities Tom McBride and former Public Affairs Director Ron Nief, it was started as a reminder to faculty to be aware of dated references, and quickly became a catalog of the rapidly changing worldview of each new generation. Some examples from this year’s list: Most of this year’s freshman class (born in 1992) have never written in cursive and have no need for a wristwatch thanks to the cell phones they have with them at all times. Having over 500 television channels to choose from has always been the norm, and those who recognize the name Clint Eastwood know him as an acclaimed director instead of Dirty Harry. * Web Watch is an occasional feature that spotlights sites of interest.
