Dr. David Jenks, the interim chairman of the Department of Criminology, traveled to Buenos Aires this summer for an invitation-only conference of the International Police Executive Symposium (IPES), a meeting of law enforcement officers and scholars.

This photo was shot on the grounds of the Self Realization Fellowship Ashram Center in Encinitas, Calif. It was shot with a cranky Canon PowerShot by Yolanda Rodriguez, the editor of the Campus Chronicle and the manager of news services. She took it during a visit to old haunts in southern California with her best girlfriends forever.

In many European capitals, authorities have set up extra shelters for the homeless to help them survive the cold snap that has seen temperatures sink as low as minus 33 Fahrenheit.
