UWG Alumni Establish Legacy Scholarship

The Alumni Legacy Scholarship Fund, a $25,000 endowment to support scholarships for students of University of West Georgia alumni, was established by the UWG Alumni Association Board of Directors with a lead gift by Rob Dial, President of the UWG Alumni Association, and his wife, Emily Dial, an alumna of UWG.

Under Rob’s leadership, the Alumni Association conducted a thorough strategic planning process to identify the need for the fund. On Aug. 11, 2012, the Alumni Association Board of Directors unanimously approved the creation of the fund.

“So many members of the Alumni Association share the same experiences in having met lifelong friends or even their spouses during their time at UWG,” said Rob. “The bond created at UWG is incredibly unique and to be able to lead an effort to allow the next generation to have those same experiences is exciting.”

“I am grateful for the leadership coming from our Alumni Association’s Board of Directors,” said Frank Pritchett, UWG Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving. “Through this group, and in particular due to the association president, Rob Dial ’06, we have embarked on this ambitious goal of raising a minimum of $25,000 over the next five years to fully fund scholarship opportunities for legacy students.”

A committee from the UWG Alumni Association Board of Directors will annually award the scholarship to a UWG legacy student, which is defined as a child of an alumna or alumnus of the University of West Georgia, including graduates of West Georgia College and the State University of West Georgia. The applicant must also be an incoming undergraduate student with a minimum un-weighted GPA of 3.0 and must meet all requirements for admission to UWG. The applicant must enroll as a full-time fee-paying student and submit an essay to illustrate the impact and importance of receiving scholarship assistance. This is the second student-centered endowment created by the UWG Alumni Association.
