I Am West GeorgiaAnuradha Chandran
My job title: Systems Support Specialist. What I really do: Solve technical problems. Birthplace: Madras, India. Family: Mom and Dad living in India. People describe me as: You might want to ask the people. My favorite things to do: Hiking and camping. My proudest accomplishment: Completing any good deed without an audience. My passion: Computer science. My pet peeve: People who are not team players. Before UWG, I: Lived in Bahrain, which is a borderless island country in the Arabian Gulf and is the smallest Arab state. I joined UWG because: I was amazed by the friendliness of the people in Carrollton, enjoyed the atmosphere and the academic climate at the university. I stay because: I came to UWG as a student, and I found a rewarding job. One thing I would change about UWG: More encouragement for people to get involved in activities. The best advice I ever received: Attempt every task like it is past due. The best advice I’d give to new faculty and staff: Always keep things in perspective, maintain a sense of humor, be consistent and realize that you will not be able to make everyone happy all the time. When I was a child, I wanted to be: A doctor. Most people don't know that: There is not a whole lot that people don’t know about me because I’m a talker. My favorite quotation: "Tell me. I'll forget. Show me, I may remember. But involve me and I'll understand." - Chinese Proverb The book I think everyone should read: "The Diary of Anne Frank." It is historical, profound and it gives an insight into the innocence and the atrocities mankind is capable of, and the more people that understand those two facts the better a chance we have at preventing anything like what happened to Anne Frank from happening to anyone else ever again. The movie I think everyone should watch: All the Harry Potter movies that have been released because of the magical cinematic experience. My favorite memory: Visiting Dubai. The architecture of the buildings in Dubai is an unforgettable sight at night. The person (alive or dead) I’d most like to meet: Indira Gandhi, one of the most powerful and long serving prime ministers of India. What I would most like to have if castaway on an island: A soft mattress or a cell phone. I can’t exactly decide which. What I would do if I won the lottery: I think that after I did all of the obligatory things (pay off debt, max out retirement contributions for the year, go on a spending spree, give money to parents, etc.) then I would take a lot of time for myself to enjoy life. What I most want to contribute to students: Stay focused, and you will only fail when you stop trying. Although you didn’t ask, I’d like to tell you anyway: I count myself very fortunate to be where I am in my life and to have made friends with many different people.
