Question
24: What did you dislike about the online portion of this course
·
There
were no portions I disliked. The online portion was very convenient.
·
I
disliked how their is minimal interaction between students and professors.
·
Nothing

I
couldn't always get my questions answered immediately like i did
·
Since
it is online and it is summer, there was lot of more work to be done at a short
period of time.

Taking
2 DSW courses while working was an overload and it was very difficult for
me. I have had many sleepless nights.
·
Unclear
deadlines, unclear expectations, unclear directions for projects
·
It's
easier to forget an assignment/the class when you don't attend in person.
·
I
did not like that the instructor presented material as if this were a regular,
average-length course. It was not a regular, average-length course. Presenting
material in such a manner s not helpful to understanding.
·
there
isnt enough communication between student and teacher, wish there was more

·
nothing;
I absolutely like online course.
·
The
assignments made little sense; they seemed abstract in nature and without clear
direction as to the expected outcome.
Write a paragraph about a vacation? Write a paragraph about purchasing a
house? Finding the information is not a hard task but none of the assignments
seemed to be linked to research capabilites involving usage of the internet but
rather seemed focused on economic matters.
Grading of the assignments did not seem relevant to internet research
related to the assignments nor ability to find information relevant to
assignments.
·
I
did not like the assignments because I felt to much financing was involved
which has nothing to do with the course. Also, the final involved financing
questions. I have never taken any type of financing classes. I thought this
would be a course of internet browsing and such.

Assignments

Asking

just myself not being comfortable with an online format.
·
It's
not possible to set up email notifications when things happen on Course Den
which means you have to constantly log in and check it. It would be much more
convenient to receive email notifications on my most used email account.

The
professor was not forthcoming with answers to students questions. She wanted us
to get answers from peers or guess at the answer. Personally, I would rather

·

It

Telecommunications
is a complicated area of study depending on the depth that is reached. While
this course was mainly introducing students to the world of telecommunications,
it would be more beneficial for courses such as these to be offered during

course was available during Session 1 of the summer semester for roughly 12

The
professor required team work and a shared grade. Not meeting in class and
living in different areas made it a lot of work to work as a team as
well,(especially since an assignment was due daily as a May-mester is a lot of
work) . I am an older student with 13 years teaching service, I found myself
teaching my partner and certainly correcting many of her assignments after
recieving poor (less than I am used to) grades. It made it a lot more work on
my part, as if doing the work of 2.

This

not adjust the assignments to reflect this problem. I was not able to turn one assignment in due

had been available on time. But you guys

Online
courses are not the same as face to face classes. Technology can be a pain sometimes...
·
Technology
is not always reliable, I like the interaction of face to face meetings.
·
The
experience. This is a difficult course
to conduct online. This type of course
almost requires face-to-face meetings.
In order to solve critical issues, you need to be able to discuss them
in person and get an immediate response.
The online chats were awkward and filled with technical difficulties
(almost everyone in the class has had some sort of issue at some point). People constantly start talking on top of
each other and it becomes frustrating.

·
Perhaps
it is my age (50), but the online classes I've experienced simply do not have
the rich and full experience of a face to face classroom. There is a much higher percentage of downtime
and less overall student engagement. The
lectures are `flatter` and less engaging and even the `chat room experience` is artificial as you
can only see and hear the person talking and not experience a full interaction
of a small group. I experienced
frustrating technical difficulties during two of my classes and lost a great
deal of time trying to log back in and being blocked out. (In one class I was
thrown out of the system every time the instructor placed me in a breakout room
and I was enable to participate in that entire portion of the class) I simply do not learn as much from the online portion of this
class as I do face to face. I would be
very sad to see higher education being limited to all courses being conducted

I didn't really get a chance to know any of them like I might have in a

as she put up lots of videos and managed communication very well, but there was
not really any opportunity to get to know any of my classmates. Also, being

emailed the distance learning department.
Instead of offering assistance, they told me that I had to contact the

There

A document with due dates ONLY, available in the course content for easy
access, would have been very helpful, especially with the assignments that had
three different due dates for the components.
A step-by-step document for setting up flikr, since we had so may sets
to add and groups to join, would have been helpful. I would have also benefited from having a
step-by-step document for using gimp and have an assignment specifically in
using gimp (since it is a free software).

excuse for incompetence and laziness. She flatly refused to meet with students,
and sent the class an e mail message three days before the course was scheduled
to end saying `I will be on vacation until august 20` and refused to answer any
further issues regarding the course or grading mistakes. Also the poorly assembled evaluation methods
were inconsistent and many of the recorded answers were flat out wrong, but she
didnt take responsibility. Somehow it was the student responsibility to grade
their own work. This wouldnt be allowed to happen in a real course. However, I
must say that the sheer lack of qualification, expertise and knowledge of the
instructor was simply unacceptable. It is sad to think that this person's
radical misguided views are considered worthy of college level academic
consideration. So this would have been the case wether the course was online or

I
am not against distant learning per se, but rather the increasing complexity
and mandatory nature of it. My concern
is that it has become a `requirement` to have computers to participate in
public higher education. Therefore, if I
have computer trouble at home, the burden for keeping up with school is
entirely on me. I do not have the funds
for technical support for all the plug-ins, downloads that are increasingly
making my computer obsolete. I am not
alone in this concern. When I had
computer trouble this semester, it was incredibly agonizing and time-consuming
to resolve. This took away from my
learning time. So I feel that distance
learning is at best 50% of what face-to-face learning can achieve. Also the new Tk20 is a sham for
students: making us pay for UWG's
portfolio requirements! Shameful, when
other less costly in-house features (e.g., PowerPoint) are available. Why this sudden need for standardization is
beyond me. UWG should pay for it if you
want it.
